University of North Florida
Located in Jacksonville, Florida, the University of North Florida is an affiliate of the State University System of Florida. It is a public institution accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The University of North Florida offers college, masters, and doctorate degree programs to its students.
History
The University of North Florida was established in 1969 after the Skinner family pledged 500 acres for the founding of the institution. The construction of buildings started in 1971 and in 1972, UNF officially opened. It was initially assigned as a college that caters to graduate students and upperclassmen.
In 1973, 35 students of UNF successfully completed an academic degree. The institution quickly flourished and in 1974 got recognition from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
The year 1984 marked a historic event when the first freshmen and sophomores were accepted for enrollment. Admission at the University of North Florida increased to 10,000 in 1995.
New buildings and halls were built beginning in 2000. Some of these buildings include the Science and Engineering building, Social Science building, the Human Services building, and the Fine Arts Center. The Board of Trustees started to administer the school in 2002. Jacksonville's former mayor, John Delaney was delegated as President of UNF in 2003.

The University of North Florida had an admission rate of 50.8% in 2011. Its retention rate is 83%, while its average ACT score was 27.74. The University has five colleges with 53 undergraduate degree programs a total of 28 master and doctorate programs. The five colleges include the College of Arts and Sciences, Coggin College of Business, College of Computing, Engineering, and Construction, College of Education and Human Services, and Brooks College of Health.
One of the most popular programs in UNF is Jazz Studies that is offered in its School of Music. It is established by Rich Matteson and led by Bunky Green. The UNF Jazz Ensemble 1 was distinguished as by Down Beat Magazine as the premier collegiate jazz band in the country.
The Coggin College of Business got included to the Best 282 Business Schools list of Princeton Review. Transportation and Logistics and International Business are two of the main programs of the Coggin College of Business.

Student Life and Activities
The University of North Florida has more than 200 clubs and student organizations. Aside from intercollegiate club sports, students also partake in intramural sports such as ultimate Frisbee, soccer, and sand volleyball that are played on campus.
There is a leisure place for students of UNF. The Game Room is where students can play board games, table tennis, video games, and pool. Weekly activities like capture the flag, game competitions, and trivia night are also hosted by the game room.

Athletics
The University of North Florida started interscholastic sports in 1983. The North Florida Ospreys, the University's intercollegiate team play the NCAA Division II. At present, it is a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference in NCAA Division I. UNF races in 17 sports category. It was a champion of the Sunshine State Conference four times.
